The People's Republic of China (the "PRC") has acceded to the Hague Convention of 5 October 1961 abolishing the Requirement of further Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents bearing the Hague Apostille.
This will enter into force as of 7th November 2023, however, the Chinese Consulate already informed us today that the last day of submission of documents for legalisation will be 31st October 2023. After this date, only the FCDO Apostille should suffice and local authorities should no longer ask for further legalisation by the Consulate as they will completely close the legalisation department.
Any documents pending legalisation they may have waiting for further supporting documentation, if the requested supporting documentation is not provided by the 31st of October, the documents will be returned without the legalisation and the consular fee is non-refundable.
