Distress of Indian Ex-Pats who wish to use Powers of Attorney

See my October 2012 Blog for more detail

In brief, as from the end of December 2012, Land Transfers in the Punjab in India cannot be effected unless the parties are present in India

This ruling appears to make the use of Powers of Attorney Deeds ineffective in Punjab, in spite of the fact that they have been used there for over a hundred years in many thousands of Land Transfers

There is room to hope that the ruling will be rescinded but for now, it is causing a rush among Indians living in UK to make powers of Attorney and to complete the sale or purchase in India during this year 2012.
